Councils

The Pastor of Saint Barnabas Catholic Congregation is advised by the Pastoral Council and the Finance Council, both of which have subgroups that each focus on a specific area of the parish.

Pastoral Council

The Pastoral Council at Saint Barnabas focuses on missionary aspects of the parish and, thus, has three primary purposes:

  1. To strategically plan for the parish and to help commissions and ministries strategically plan how they can most effectively form disciples and serve the community.
  2. To guide parishioners toward lives of holiness, witness, and service.
  3. To advise the pastor on parish and parishioner needs.

Pastoral Council typically meets the third Wednesday of each month at the Holy Assumption site.

The members of the Pastoral Council serving from July 2025 through June 2026 are:

  • Rachel Borden (Chair)
  • Jeff Stanislawski (Co-Vice Chair)
  • Ginger Ryback (Co-Vice Chair)
  • Kitty Klein (Secretary)
  • Sr. Bernadette Kele
  • Nancy Melcher
  • Vicky Quezada
  • Dave Leukam (Trustee, Ex-Officio Member)
  • Larry Horning (Trustee, Ex-Officio Member)

Parish Commissions

Saint Barnabas Catholic Congregation is moving toward a new governance structure of four commissions that report to Pastoral Council and that guide and coordinate different activities, ministries, and initiatives. The four commissions, listed below, are based on the Four Pillars of Stewardship.

Prayer & Worship

This Commission focuses on the rites, ceremonies, prayers and sacraments that we participate in to worship God and receive His grace. This will include but also go beyond preparation for Sunday and weekday Mass to build spirituality that extends past the walls of the church.

Service

This Commission focuses on meeting physical, emotional, and some spiritual needs of our parish community and beyond, with a special concern for the poor and marginalized.

Hospitality

This Commission focuses on growing and developing communion, unity, and community among parishioners and with those outside of the parish. It ensures that people feel that they belong at Saint Barnabas, whether they are current members or not.

Evangelization

This Commission focuses on forming disciples of all ages and stages of life, as well as on sharing our Christian joy with those inside and outside of the parish.

Finance Council

The Finance Council at Saint Barnabas provides the pastor with advice and guidance in the administration of parish assets, prepares the parish's annual budget, and, generally, monitors the financial condition of the parish. It also oversees the Buildings and Grounds Committee, reviewing funding requests for maintenance projects, as well as oversees other committees requiring funding on an ad hoc basis.

Finance Council meets monthly.

The current Chair of Finance Council is Phil Ryback, with Kathleen Dagenhardt serving as Co-Chair.
